Your Questions, Answered

  • Pelvic health physiotherapy focuses on the muscles, joints, nerves, and connective tissues of the pelvis. It supports women experiencing issues such as pelvic floor weakness, pelvic pain, bladder or bowel changes, prolapse symptoms, and recovery after pregnancy or surgery. Treatment combines assessment, education, hands‑on therapy, and tailored rehabilitation.

  • Common reasons women come to Restore Therapy include:

    • Pelvic floor weakness or overactivity

    • Bladder urgency, frequency, or leakage

    • Bowel changes, including constipation or difficulty emptying

    • Pelvic organ prolapse symptoms

    • Pregnancy-related discomfort

    • Postnatal recovery, including abdominal separation

    • Pain with movement, exercise, or daily activities

    • Post‑surgical rehabilitation (urogynaecology, colorectal, abdominal, or gynaecological surgery)

    • Scar discomfort or tightness (C‑section, perineal, abdominal)

  • Your first appointment includes:

    • A detailed conversation about your symptoms, goals, and medical history

    • Posture, movement, and breathing assessment

    • Abdominal and pelvic floor evaluation

    • Discussion of findings and a clear plan moving forward

Internal pelvic floor examination is offered when appropriate, but it is always optional. You are fully in control of what happens during your session.

  • No. Internal examination can provide valuable information, but it is never required. Many women prefer to begin with external assessment, movement analysis, and breath‑based strategies. We will always discuss options and choose an approach that feels right for you.

  • Comfortable clothing you can move in — leggings, joggers, or anything similar. If an internal assessment is planned, you will be given privacy to change and draping will be used to ensure comfort and dignity.

  • This varies depending on your symptoms and goals. Some women feel improvement after just a few sessions; others benefit from longer-term support, especially for complex or long-standing issues. After your assessment, you’ll receive a personalised plan outlining expected timeframes.

  • Yes. Pelvic health physiotherapy is safe and highly beneficial during pregnancy. It can help with pelvic girdle pain, back pain, bladder changes, and preparing your pelvic floor for birth.

  • You can attend as soon as you feel ready. Many women book from 6 weeks postpartum, but earlier support is possible for pain, mobility issues, or concerns about recovery. A Mummy MOT is available for a comprehensive postnatal check.

  • Yes. Rehabilitation after urogynaecology, colorectal, or abdominal surgery is a core part of my practice. Treatment may include scar therapy, gentle mobility work, pelvic floor rehabilitation, and guidance on returning to daily activities safely.

  • Scar therapy uses gentle hands‑on techniques to improve comfort, mobility, and tissue health around surgical or birth-related scars. It can help reduce tightness, sensitivity, and restrictions in movement.

  • Absolutely. Restore Therapy is a dedicated, private clinic room. Appointments are one‑to‑one, confidential, and designed to help you feel safe, supported, and listened to.

  • Yes. You are welcome to bring a chaperone to any appointment. A chaperone can be a partner, friend, or family member — whoever helps you feel most comfortable. If you would like a formal chaperone provided, this can be arranged with notice. Your comfort, dignity, and choice are central to every session, and you will always be fully informed before any assessment or treatment takes place.

  • Yes — babies are welcome at postnatal sessions. Many mothers find this makes attending easier and more relaxed.

  • Yes — you can absolutely mention these during your pelvic health appointment. Many women experience pelvic symptoms alongside neck, shoulder, or back discomfort, and it’s often helpful to look at the whole picture.

If the issues are linked, we can usually address them within the same session. If they need more dedicated time — for example, a full musculoskeletal assessment or hands‑on treatment focused on another area — I may suggest booking an additional appointment so you receive the most thorough care.

Either way, you won’t be turned away or asked to “pick one problem”. Your body works as a connected system, and your treatment can reflect that.

  • You can book online, email, or call directly. If you’re unsure which appointment type you need, I’m happy to guide you.
